Rockets Mourn Passing of Jahneil Douglas

TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo and all of Rocket Nation mourn the death of junior football player Jahneil Douglas, who was shot in an incident in Toledo on Tuesday night.

Douglas, a Toledo native who attended nearby Start High School, was a defensive lineman and played in seven games in 2019.

"We were all shocked to learn of the tragic death of Jahneil Douglas," said Mike O'Brien, UToledo Vice President and Athletic Director. "This is a devastating loss for our football team and our University, and a very sad day for all of us in Rocket Nation. Our deepest condolences go out to Jahneil's family and friends."

"The Toledo Football family is heartbroken by the loss of Jahneil," said Head Football Coach Jason Candle. "He was a hard-working young man who was loved by all his teammates and coaches. Our sincerest condolences go out to Jahneil's family and friends during these difficult times. Jahneil will forever be a part of the Rocket Football family."

Al Baker, the chair of the UToledo Board of Trustees added, "On behalf of the trustees and the entire University community, we express our deepest sympathies and sincere condolences to the family of Jahneil Douglas. Rocket Nation is mourning with you. As a former football player myself, our hearts also are with his teammates and coaches who have suffered a shocking loss. Jahneil was a tremendous student-athlete and young man. We offer our support to his loved ones."
