TOLEDO, Ohio — University of Toledo senior punter Bailey Flint has been named to the official watch list for the Wuerffel Trophy. The award is presented annually to the FBS player that best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement.

Flint was averaging a MAC-best 47.3 yards per punt through four games in 2019 when was sidelined for the remainder of the season with an injury. He has been the Rockets' starting punter since his freshman year, moving his punting average from 38.0 as a freshman, to 40.9 as a sophomore and 47.3 last season.

A media communication/theater major, Flint has been very active in community service in his time as a Rocket. He has participated in Victory Day, which offers special needs students a chance to be a spend an afternoon with the Rockets, in each of the past three years; the "Feed My Starving Children" program; "No One Eats Alone" program at Longfellow Elementary School in Toledo; after school program at Central Trail Elementary in Sylvania, Ohio; reading programs at REACH Academy; Dr. Seuss Day at Burroughs Elementary in Toledo; spelling bees and science fairs at Rosa Parks Elementary in Toledo; Toledo Boys and Girls Club; WTOL Holiday Toy Drive; free school lunch program in Toledo during recent school closures; "Welcome Back to School" day at Summit Academy in Toledo; the St. Francis of the Tejas food pantry; and the Fueling Tomorrows recruitment program at UToledo. In addition, Flint volunteers his time with punting lessons for local high school football players.

The Wuerffel Trophy, known as "College Football's Premier Award for Community Service," is presented each February in Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Named after 1996 Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Danny Wuerffel from the University of Florida, the formal announcement of the 2020 recipient will be made at the National Football Foundation's festivities in New York City on Dec. 10. The presentation of the 2020 Wuerffel Trophy will occur at the 52nd All Sports Association Awards Banquet on Feb. 5, 2021 in Fort Walton Beach.
