Ashton Cassel and
Betsy Lueck will serve as team captains for the Toledo women's soccer team in 2020, head coach
TJ Buchholz announced today.
"I am very excited to have Alex, Ashton and Betsy serve as our team captains and as our leaders this season," said Buchholz. "Each one brings a special leadership quality, personality and experience within our program to help our team operate and perform at a high level. They understand the importance of our program's positive culture and will ensure we continue to build upon our tradition of excellence this upcoming year."
Troy, a senior forward from Lake Orion, Mich., is a two-time Academic All-MAC selection. She has played 51 matches and has scored four goals in her career. She finished fourth on the team with 19 shots in 2019 and saw at least 60 minutes of match action on seven occasions.
Cassel is a junior midfielder from Grand Blanc, Mich. She had one goal and two assists and was named the team MVP in 2019. She earned Academic All-MAC honors and was named second-team Academic All-District. As a freshman in 2018, Cassel had one goal and four assists, and was named to the MAC All-Freshman Team.
Lueck, a junior defender from Mount Clemens, Mich., has played in 37 of 38 matches in her college career. She was a starter in 14 matches as a sophomore and eight as a freshman.Â
