KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Toledo softball team (9-9) fell to ETSU (9-13), 3-1, in the final game at the Tennessee Tournament on Sunday. Senior
Morgan Paaverud led the Rockets at the plate, going 2-for-4. Freshman
Macey Moore went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Freshman
McKenna Schmidt earned her fifth start for the Rockets, striking out four and allowing 11 hits.
How it happened
- The Rockets trailed early in the game, as ETSU put up one run in the bottom of the first. Andrea Sarhatt hit a one-run double to put the Bucs up 1-0.
- ETSU added another run in the second when Sarhatt recorded a sacrifice bunt, bringing Jordan Durbin home.
- The Rockets cut into the Bucs' lead in the top of the third when Macey Moore drove in the Rockets' only run, doubling to left field and bringing in Lily Beyer. With the bases loaded, Paaverud stepped up to the plate, but struck out swinging and the Rockets went into the fourth inning trailing 2-1.
- ETSU added an insurance run the next inning as Nikki Grupp hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing Makenna Helton home.
