A Look Back at the 2019-20 Season

TOLEDO, Ohio - The 2019-20 season for the Toledo women's golf program was one that displayed growth throughout a season cut short due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

"We welcomed a whole new group of Rockets in the fall, and growth and culture were our main focus for this past season," Head Coach Jenny Coluccio said. "Our team came together very well with our three seniors welcoming our four freshmen into our family. The strides each player took were immense. Our inexperience was fading as the spring season was unfolding, and our freshmen were just about to break into the next level of their growth. I'm excited to see this group continue to grow in the coming months and come back stronger."

Highlighting the year was senior Saranlak Tumfong leading the Rockets with a team-best 75.6 stroke average. She registered three Top 10 and five Top 20 finishes against tournament fields that included some of the nation's top programs. One of those tournaments was the inaugural Glass City Invitational, an event in which Toledo hosted four teams ranked in the WGCA's Preseason Top 20 and eight schools that participated in the 2019 NCAA Regionals.

Tumfong led a Rocket squad that included three seniors and four freshmen; however, newcomer Caroline Kane wasn't able to compete due to injury.

Joining Tumfong in Toledo's senior class were Thunpijja Sukkasem and Donchanok Toburint. Sukkasem posted a career-best ninth-place showing at the MAC Preview, while Toburint provided veteran leadership for a young squad.

Freshman Amelia Lee enjoyed the most success among the Rocket newcomers, posting three Top 20 finishes. She also notched season-best 18-hole and 54-hole totals with a one-over par 73 and nine-over par 225 at No. 25 Furman's Lady Paladin Invitational.

Freshmen Kathryn Roth and Claudia Sampson also made dramatic improvements from the fall to the spring. Roth and Sampson both carded their best rounds of the season in Toledo's final event at the Jackrabbit Invitational.
