TOLEDO, Ohio - University of Toledo junior Marreon Jackson (Cleveland, Ohio) will be putting his name into the 2020 NBA Draft while also seeking an evaluation from the NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee.
Student-athletes are allowed to enter the NBA Draft each year during their collegiate career without jeopardizing their future eligibility as long as they withdraw their name no later than 10 days after the combine and notify their Director of Athletics of their intent to return. The NBA Undergraduate Advisory Committee is a newer program instituted by the NBA that gives valuable feedback on the potential draft status of underclassmen who are seeking more information about their professional opportunities.
"Growing up as a kid my goal was to earn a scholarship to play college basketball with my ultimate goal to play in the NBA," Jackson said. "I'm looking forward to receiving some great feedback and constructive criticism about what I need to do to get better."
"We are extremely supportive of Marreon's decision to research and be advised about his NBA future," Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk said. "Going through this process will be a great learning experience for Marreon and will be beneficial to him reaching his future goals."
A 6-foot-1, 190-pound guard, Jackson produced one of the top seasons ever by a Rocket with his 635 points this year ranking third in program history. Jackson, who set a school record with 99 three-point field goals made in the 2019-20 campaign, ranked second in the Mid-American Conference with 19.8 ppg and 5.4 apg to go along with a league-best 3.1 treys per game. He paced the Rockets in free-throw percentage (.816), free throws made (146) and free throws attempted (179) as well as points and assists. Jackson scored in double figures in his final 21 contests and ranked second in league play with 21.6 ppg. He registered four 30-point outings with 37 at Central Michigan, 36 at Akron, 32 at Kent State and 31 at Bowling Green.
The NBA deadline to declare early entry eligibility for the 2020 Draft is April 26, the NBA Draft Combine is set to take place May 19-24 in Chicago and the NBA Draft is scheduled for June 25.
