TAMPA, Fla. – Senior Saranlak Tumfong matched her season-best round with an even-par 72 and registered her third Top-10 showing this season for the Toledo women's golf team at USF's Old Friends Invitational on Tuesday. The Rockets finished sixth as a team in the tournament that was played at the par-72, 6,286-yard Tampa Palms Golf & Country Club.
"Our first round was a little shaky in all areas, but then we settled down and got comfortable in our routines during the second round and it showed," Head Coach Jenny Coluccio said. "They made smart adjustments to course conditions and stuck with their processes. For the final round, we really did post a solid round in the conditions. We focused on exhaling and being comfortable under pressure. The hole locations were challenging and provided a good test. This course can quickly get away from you if you're not focused on the right things. I'm proud of their quick learning from round to round, and we need to still continue to focus on cleaning up a few areas."
Tumfong registered three birdies and three bogeys during her final round en route to tying for sixth place at 10-over par 226 (80-74-72). She finished the tournament with seven birdies and an eagle.
Freshman Amelia Lee collected eight birdies in the tournament and registered her best finish as a Rocket by tying for 16th place at 18-over par 234 (77-79-78).
Senior Donchanok Toburint (85-76-78=239) and freshman Claudia Sampson (90-81-81=252) also recorded their best showings this season by tying for 25th and 32nd place, respectively.
Rounding out the Rocket lineup was senior Thunpijja Sukkasem who tied for 35th place at 36-over par 260 (83-84-93).
Freshman Kathryn Roth competed as an individual and placed 38th at 70-over par 286 (98-84-104).
The Rockets will return to action with another trip to the Sunshine State for the Florida State Match-up on Feb. 29-March 1 in Panama City, Fla.
