Get to Know: Gracie Storm

Get to know your University of Toledo swimming and diving team! First up is senior Gracie Storm.

When did you first start swimming/diving?
I started swimming when I was eight years old.

What is your favorite thing about being a swimmer?
All of the friends and the amazing people I have met through the sport, and having the opportunity to challenge myself each day.

Why did you decide to come to the University of Toledo?
Toledo has a great department of education and many opportunities for field experiences. There are so many school districts within the Toledo area that allow for diverse and unique opportunities to learn and grow in the field of education. I also chose Toledo because of the team atmosphere and the kindness of the team on my recruiting trip.

What is your favorite spot on campus?
Bancroft side of University Hall! I think it is so beautiful especially when the seasons change. I love going on walks/runs and passing U-Hall and seeing how beautiful the bell tower is.

What is your major and why did you choose it?
Early Childhood Education, I was inspired to become a teacher by my fourth grade teacher. She always went the extra mile to lend a helping hand to her students both in and outside the classroom. She created an inclusive environment which made our classroom feel like a family/community. She knew how to make learning fun and exciting and truly opened my eyes to the power that a teacher can have on a child. Since then, I have always wanted to be that teacher for children.

What is the most interesting class you've taken at Toledo?
Not related to my major- Astronomy
Related to my major- Educating Gifted/Talented

What do you want to do after graduation?
Become a teacher! I would love to teach 2^nd, 3^rd or 4^th grade

Excluding swimming and diving, what is your favorite sport to watch?
Gymnastics

What is the best piece of advice you've ever received?
"The only time success comes before work, is in the dictionary." or "You can take a shorter path, but it won't lead you very far."

What is your dream vacation spot?
I don't think I have a "dream spot" but I would love to road trip out West! I also would love to someday visit Alaska and explore more of Europe!

Who are your role models?
My parents because they are the hardest working people I know and have taught me so many life lessons that have helped shaped me into the person I am today. They have encouraged and supported me every step of the way and I could never thank them enough. Also, my assistant swim coach from my club team Bob Hiller; he is the kindest and most inspirational person I have ever met. He always knew how to lift your spirits and motivate you even on the hardest days. He also had the BEST stories before every backstroke set and really knew how to set a positive and encouraging mood no matter the set.

What is your favorite restaurant in Toledo?
I don't eat out much, but I do enjoy a good Barry's Bagel every once in a while! And I love Mr. Freeze's ice cream!

What is the best concert you've ever been to?
Either Taylor Swift or One Republic

Do you like to cook? If so, what is your favorite meal to prepare?
Yes, and probably just basic grilled salmon, sweet potatoes and asparagus!

What are your three most used apps on your phone?
TikTok, Snapchat, and Instagram
