Rockets to Host Arch-Rival Falcons in Battle of I-75

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's basketball team (11-8, 3-3 MAC) returns home following a pair of big road wins to host arch-rival Bowling Green (14-5, 5-1 MAC) on Saturday, Jan. 25. Tip-off time is set for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena with streaming available on ESPN3. Fans are encouraged to arrive early to be able to get to their seats prior to tipoff.

        The Rockets have rebounded from a 74-67 home defeat to Central Michigan on Jan. 14 with a 99-89 victory at Akron and an 83-74 triumph at Ohio. The Falcons have reeled off five straight wins after dropping a 79-61 decision at home to Kent State in their conference opener.

        Junior Marreon Jackson is leading Toledo in scoring and ranks second in the MAC with 18.8 ppg. In league play, he is first with 22.7 ppg and is tied for first with 4.0 treys per game. Also scoring in double digits for Toledo is senior Luke Knapke at 15.7 ppg (8th in MAC), senior Willie Jackson at 11.9 ppg and junior Spencer Littleson at 10.8 ppg. Jackson is also averaging a MAC-best 12.6 rpg, a total that ranks third in the nation. He also is tied for sixth nationally with 11 double-doubles.

        Marreon Jackson was red-hot during Toledo's last two road wins, scoring a career-high 36 points against Akron and 29 vs. Ohio. Knapke averaged 20.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg against the Zips and Bobcats, while Willie Jackson tallied 16.0 ppg and 13.0 rpg.

        Toledo has won nine of its last 10 games vs. BGSU, including its last six home contests. The Rockets posted a 101-75 win over the Falcons two years ago in their last meeting in Savage Arena and a 78-71 victory last season in the Stroh Center.

•  Marreon Jackson was named to the Lou Henson Award Mid-Season Watch list, an award presented to the top mid-major player in the nation. He is averaging 32.3 ppg in his last three road games. Jackson ranks among the Top Five in the MAC with 18.8 ppg (2nd), 6.2 apg (2nd), 2.0 spg (4th) and a 2.0 assist/turnover ratio (4th). In league play, he is first with 22.7 ppg, tied for first with 4.0 treys per game and tied for fourth with an 85.7 FT%
•  Jackson hit seven treys at both Akron and Kent State which is one shy of former Rocket Nate Navigato's school record for a conference game (eight vs. EMU on March 2, 2018). He he hit a career-high eight threes as a freshman in the 2018 MAC semifinals vs. EMU.
•  Luke Knapke, who has been named MAC West Division Player of the Week twice this season, has scored in double digits in 18 of 19 games. He ranks second on the team with 15.7 ppg and 8.0 rpg to go along with a MAC-best 2.4 bpg.
•  Knapke has been extremely efficient in five games vs. BGSU. He is averaging 10.8 ppg and 5.8 rpg to go along with a 73.1 FG% (19-of-26) against the Falcons.
•  Willie Jackson leads the MAC and ranks third nationally with 12.6 rpg (T-3rd in nation with 9.0 defensive rpg) after ranking fourth in the MAC last year with 8.9 rpg. He has scored in double digits in 10 of his last 12 games and has led Toledo on the boards in 16 games, including a career-high tying 20 caroms at Notre Dame (Nov. 21).
•  Jackson scored a career-high 23 points to go along with 12 boards at Akron (Jan. 18). and also tallied 17 points and 13 rebounds at Kent State (Jan. 7).
•  Spencer Littleson has scored in double digits 10 times and dished out a career-high seven assists vs. CMU (Jan. 14).
•  Keshaun Saunders has scored in double digits in three of his last four games and is averaging 11.5 ppg during this stretch. In league play, he ranks second with a 60.6 FG% (20-of-33) and a 72.2 three-point FG% (13-of-18) in MAC play.

•  Toledo has made 43-of-48 free-throw attempts (89.6 percent) in its last three games after shooting 61.4 percent (43-of-70) in its previous four contests.
•  Toledo has shot 41.8 percent (59-of-141) from three-point range in its last six games after posting a 24.0 mark (18-of-75) in its previous three contests.
•  The Rockets' 56.7 FG% at Akron was their second best in a game this season.
•  Toledo has held all but two opponents to a 45.0 FG% or lower, including seven under 40.0.
•  UT's 15 treys at Akron rank third in school history and are two shy of the school record.
•  The Rockets' 15 three-pointers are the most made under Coach Kowalczyk and one away from the school record in a MAC game - 16 vs. Marshall in 2000.
 
SOME INFO ON THE ROCKETS' OPPONENT
     Bowling Green is led by the trio of Justin Turner (17.5 ppg), Dylan Frye (14.1 ppg) and Daeqwon Plowden (13.5 ppg). Plowden leads the team with 7.9 rpg, while Frye is dishing out a team-best 4.1 apg. The Falcons were the preseason pick by the league's head coaches to win this year's Mid-American Conference Tournament.

ROCKETS FOR ALOPECIA
Rockets for Alopecia Night is taking place on Saturday to help generate awareness of the autoimmune disease which attacks the body's hair follicles and causes hair loss. Associate head coach Jeff Massey's eight-year old daughter, Kayla, was diagnosed with the disease when she was four years old. Kayla and other people who have the disease will serve as anthem buddies prior to the game and be recognized on the court during the contest's first media timeout. ON THE HORIZON
