Toledo Cross Country Lifts Off for NIU Huskie Challenge

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's and women's cross country team hits the road for the NIU Huskie Challenge on Friday, Sept. 6 in DeKalb, Ill. The women's 6K will start at 5:00 p.m. CT with the men's 8K to follow at 5:45 p.m. CT.
Both squads opened the season last Friday at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener in Bowling Green, Ohio, where the women took second with 32 points and the men took third with 61 points.
Senior Stephanie Sherman set the pace for the women at last week's meet, landing fourth with a time of 18:40.0. Following close behind Sherman were freshmen duo Emily Vining and Madeline Vining, who took sixth (18:44.2) and seventh (18:52.0), respectively.
On the men's side, the Mel Brodt Opener served as the first Division I collegiate race for all nine Rockets. Freshman Jake Rethman led the pack, stopping the clock at 16:10.1 to place tenth. Freshmen Tanner Delk and Cooper Losey were next across the finish line, placing 12th (16:17.4) and 13th (16:21.4), respectively. Losey's time was 32 seconds faster than his previous personal-best.
