Late Goals Doom Rockets in 2-0 Loss to Akron

TOLEDO, Ohio – The University of Toledo soccer team found itself on the wrong side of the scoreboard as the Rockets (3-7-0, 0-2-0) fell 2-0 to Akron (4-5-0, 1-1-0) on a cloudy Sunday afternoon in the Glass City.
Following a scoreless first half, a foul in the middle third late in the game proved costly for the Rockets. Akron's Ryley Watt sent a long ball into the box off of the free kick and Sydney Worthy was able to get a piece of it. Defender Betsy Lueck laid out for the save, but it slowly rolled to the back of the net and put the Zips up 1-0.
The Rockets amped up the pressure in an attempt to score, but Akron's Carly Pcholinsky sent one to the upper-90 in the 89th minute to seal the win for the Zips.
QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH TJ BUCHHOLZ
"We had two great teams and a really great battle. Credit to Akron, they were able to make a play. On a dead-ball situation, you have to make those plays. It's how you're successful in this league, so credit to them. We were unlucky and didn't have those opportunities, so we've got to find a way to be successful on the offensive side. Great performance by both teams. It was a lot of back-and-forth, but Akron found a way to get the result."
STAT OF THE GAME
The Rockets will travel south for a Friday, Oct. 4 match vs. Ohio in Athens, Ohio. Toledo takes on the Bobcats at 4:00 p.m.
