DURHAM, N.C. – Senior
Nate Thomson fired a two-under par 70 in Sunday's final round to finish with a three-over par 219 (76-73-70) at Duke's Rod Myers Invitational. Thomson paced the Toledo men's golf team in the event by tying for 27
th place in a field that included five 2019 NCAA Championships participants and was held at the par-72, 7,154-yard Duke University Golf Club.
Thomson enjoyed his most success on par-five holes, finishing at five-under par. He also was one-over par on the par-three holes.
Seniors
Grant Godfrey (78-73-79=230) and
Rasmus Broholt Lind (78-72-81=231) tied for 58
th and 62
nd, respectively. Sophomore
Muhammed Afif Mohd Fathi (T-69
th/82-77-78=237) and freshman
Jack Doody (74
th/84-83-81=248) rounded out the Rocket lineup.
 "We really enjoyed playing at this event and Duke was an amazing host," Head Coach
Jeff Roope said. "While we would have liked to play better as a unit, this group of guys works really hard and better days are certainly ahead. Â Nate had a solid event and probably played better than he even scored. Â It was encouraging for me that talk quickly turned to next week and the Inverness Intercollegiate, and the improvements they were individually looking to make between now and then. Â That passion will shape their success ultimately."
No. 6 Wake Forest captured the tournament title at 22-under par 842, three shots in front of the host Blue Devils.
Toledo returns to action on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 23-24 when it hosts the 15
th annual Inverness Intercollegiate.
