TOLEDO, Ohio -Â The Toledo women's soccer team will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. to take on Purdue on Sunday, Aug. 25. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m. at Folk Field.
"Purdue is a strong Big Ten team and they will be a good challenge for our players," said head coach
TJ Buchholz. "We will need to be more effective on the offensive side of the ball if we want to win on Sunday."
Following Sunday's match, the Rockets will host their first home game on Thursday, Aug. 29, as the Rockets welcome UIC in the debut contest at Paul Hotmer Field. This will be the first time the Rockets will have played on the main campus since the 1996 season, following 22 seasons at Scott Park
OPENING XI
- Toledo is looking for its first win over Purdue since the 2010 season, when the Rockets came home with a 1-0 victory in overtime.
- The Rockets are coming off of a 1-0 overtime loss at IUPUI on Thursday.
- Redshirt-freshman Adrianna Brewer made her collegiate debut in goal for the Rockets against IUPUI, recording seven saves.
- The Rockets' defense forced four offside calls on IUPUI, while Toledo was only called once.
- Twenty athletes return to the Toeldo roster this year, including goalkeeper Madison Perrin and forwards Sophia Lewis and Alex Troy. Perrin recorded 68 saves last year, securing seven wins for the Rockets. Lewis and Troy combined for seven goals and seven assists.
- As a team, the Rockets scored 31 goals in 2018, just five goals behind the No. 5 spot in single-season history.
- Defensively, Toledo allowed 23 goals and posted five shutouts in 2018. Perrin was credited with four of the five shutouts.
- Four seniors will begin their final campaign in the Midnight Blue and Gold.
- The Rockets welcome 10 new faces to the roster, including junior transfer Josie Fowler from Marquette.
- The freshmen bring impressive resumes to the Glass City. Forward Stephanie Currie and midfielder Ariana Garcia each recorded three shots and one on target against IUPUI in the season-opener.
- Sophomore Ashton Cassel will look to have an immediate impact in the middle third. Cassel was named to the MAC All-Freshmen squad last season, contributing four assists and a goal.
- Purdue holds the all-time series record, 2-1-1, over the Rockets.
