Orlando, Fla. - The University of Toledo softball team fell to Louisiana Tech (8-0, 5 innings) and UCF (2-1, 8 innings) on Friday to open the UCF Invitational. The Rockets struggled to get the offense going on day one, only recording four hits between the two games.

Game 1

La. Tech started off hot in the top of the opening frame and kept the momentum going from there. With senior Kailey Minarchick pitching for UT, the first three batters for The Lady Techsters loaded the bases thanks to an error, a single and a walk. A passed ball on the fourth batter of the inning brought one run in for La. Tech.
The opposition saw two more score when Zoe Hicks singled up the middle to bring in two more, making things 3-0 with no outs.
A steal and another walk put runners in the corners. The Lady Techsters put a fourth run up thanks to a sacrifice bunt. Toledo finally stopped the bleeding when the next two batters grounded out to shortstop and first base, respectively.
Following a groundout by sophomore Kylie Norwood in the bottom of the first, senior Megan Choate singled up the left. Choate was left on base though following two quick outs.
LAT added three more in the second thanks to back-to-back singles that brought one run in, then two.
Toledo went down in order in the bottom of the second. In the third, La. Tech's Berk Calapp advanced to third on a walk, steal and wild pitch. Calapp was brought in on a sac bunt to make the score 8-0. La. Tech's defense dominated from that point and held the game until it was called after the fifth.

Game 2

Game two of the day was a quiet offensive affair for both sides. Toledo ended the game with three hits and eight strikeouts to UCF's two hits and six strikeouts.
Both sides went down in order almost every inning until the eighth when the lineups finally sparked.
Freshman Brianna Robeson got on second in the top of the eighth and moved to third on a sac bunt from fellow first-year Taylor Weekly. Junior Samantha Golden grounded out to third, but the contact was enough to bring in Robeson for UT's lone run before the inning ended.
UCF mirrored UT's half of the inning with a double to start followed by a sac bunt to move the runner to third. A walk put runners at the corners with two outs, but an E7 brought one in and put runners on second and third.
UCF took the game thanks to a final left field single that brought in the winning run.
