Toledo, Ohio - The Rockets will be heading to South Bend, Ind. for the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame. Competition begins on Friday, Feb. 1 with field events starting at 4:00 p.m. and running events beginning at 4:30 p.m. Events resume Saturday, Feb. 2 with running events starting at 9:45 a.m. and field events to follow at 10:30 a.m.
UT landed second at the GVSU Open with 120.5 points, 11.5 points behind meet hosts Grand Valley State. The Rockets had 12 top-three finishes and broke several personal records. Senior
Nautica Hill PR-ed in the 60m dash (7.72) and took first. She was followed closely by
Christina Johnson who took second (7.78). In the mile, junior
Athena Welsh (4:43.54) and seniors
Janelle Noe (4:43.59) and
Petronela Simiuc (4:49.52) clinched the top three spots. Welsh also earned MAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honors for her performance in the mile.
Senior
Katie Dewey took second in the weight throw (17.52m), and senior
Yana Khabina took second in the long jump (5.50m). Freshman
Julia Smith and junior
Atalia da Silva managed to tie for third in the high jump (1.58m).
In last year's Maro Invitational, Dewey smashed UT's indoor record in the shot put with a throw of 15.25m. Welsh clinched first in the 5000m event (16:35.28), and Noe posted a personal best 3000m time of 9:36.84.
