Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo women's swimming and diving team travels to Oxford, Ohio on Saturday for a dual meet against the Miami RedHawks. The meet kicks off at 11 a.m. in the Corwin M. Nixon Aquatic Center. Fans can follow live results of the meet here.
The meet will be one of the Rockets' final tuneups before the Mid-American Conference championships get underway on Feb. Â 27 in Akron, Ohio. After this week, UT returns home for a two-day battle against I-75 rival Bowling Green to close out the regular season. Despite the conference tournament being so close, head coach Jonas Persson and his team are still treating each week as business as usual.
"This weekend is just another chance to keep on improving," Persson said. "We're going to take what we did last week against Ohio and see if we can do a little bit better this time. We're training so that we can compete well, gain our confidence, and refine our racing strategy. The most important part though is that we don't want to kill them in practice then show up and be tired. We're still training hard but we still want to give the team a fair chance to race well."
The Rockets are coming off an impressive duel against Ohio on Jan. 18. UT fell, 174-126, but there were still a number of high points. Sophomore Kristen Straszacker scored 19 points, sophomore Lisa Eriksson earned 13, and junior Bec Welke scored 11 for the Midnight Blue and Gold. The three combined for all six of Toledo's event victories, and the day was topped off by freshman diver Sydney Jackson setting a personal record in the 3-meter (223.65).
