Women's Soccer Announces Spring Schedule

1/17/2019 2:16:00 PM

Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo women's soccer team announced its 2019 spring schedule today. The Rockets will play five matches this spring, with three-straight home fixtures scheduled for April. Admission for all home contests is free and all home matches will be played at Scott Park.

Toledo kicks off the spring swing with a March 23 visit to Eastern Michigan, followed by a March 30 road game with I-75 rival Bowling Green. The Rockets then return to the grounds of Scott Park for a April 6 date with Ashland, followed by an April 14 alumni match. UT will close out the spring with its third consecutive preseason matchup against Big Ten member Michigan State. Start times for each contest can be seen below.

Toledo is coming off a 8-9-2 (4-6-1 MAC) 2019 season that featured a record-breaking performance from senior captain Hannah Scafaria. Scafaria dominated UT's offense, amassing 14 goals and one assist in 19 matches. Her efforts moved her to third-place all-time at UT for most goals scored in a single season behind Molly Cornwell (2007) and Corrie Hasenjager (2000), who both netted 15. The forward ended the year with the most goals in the conference and was named to the All-MAC first team and United Soccer Coaches' All-Midwest Region second team.

Along with Scafaria's success, freshman defender Ashton Cassel also made her name one to remember. The Grand Blanc, Mich. native was named to the conference's All-Freshman squad for her first-year efforts. A cornerstone in Toledo's midfield, Cassel appeared in all 19 matches and scored one goal and assisted in four others. With her assistance, the Midnight Blue and Gold earned five shutouts and ended the regular-season with the fourth-least goals allowed in the conference (23).

Academically, eleven UT soccer players earned spots on the Academic All-MAC team, the second-most in the conference. The Rockets also recorded a 3.63 team GPA and had 11 student-athletes earn a perfect 4.0.
