Buffalo, N.Y. - Toledo closed out its weekend at the University at Buffalo Diving Invitational today with a big sweep from freshman Joelle Gallais in the platform event. Gallais recorded a 249.95 final score, beating out second place Jae Sarkis from UB by 24.75 points.
Today was only Gallais' second time competing platform in her collegiate career. Her score from Buffalo is a 16.2 point improvement over the 233.75 she previously recorded at the Ohio State Invitational back in November. It's also a new record for the freshman diver.
Gallais started the day with an impressive showing in the morning prelims. The Lumsden, Saskatchewan native swept all eight divers after registering 233.40 points through five dives. Her total was 18.65 points ahead of UB's Journi Northorp (214.75).
The finals were no different for Gallais who took down UB's Sarkis (225.20), Northorp (209.75) and Tricia Arceri (197.90) on her way to the top.Ā
