Toledo to Host Inverness Intercollegiate Next Week

9/19/2018 4:43:00 PM

TOLEDO, Ohio — Toledo will host the 14th-annual Inverness Intercollegiate on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 24-25 at the Inverness Club. The 54-hole tournament will be played on a par-71, 7,172-yard layout that will be the first Intercollegiate since the course's major renovation over the last year. The event will begin with 36 holes on Monday (8:45 a.m. shotgun start) followed by the final 18 holes on Tuesday (8:30 a.m. tee times on Holes No. 1 and 10).

The Inverness Club was founded in 1903, and along with the University of Toledo, served as host for the 2009 NCAA Men's Golf Championships. Inverness will host the 2019 U.S. Junior Amateur and 2021 Solheim Cup and has also hosted four U.S. Opens, two U.S. Senior Opens, two PGA Championships and one U.S. Amateur.

"We are looking forward to hosting the 2018 Inverness Intercollegiate," Head Coach Jeff Roope said. "All parties involved in putting this event together have been working diligently to ensure it's one of the top collegiate events in the country.  I can't thank the staff at Inverness and the staff at UT enough for all of their help and support.  A course like Inverness Club deserves a first-class event and that's what we hope the Intercollegiate will deliver.  The opportunity for our program to compete against and host some of the top teams in the nation at our home course is quite special."

Sophomore Grant Godfrey is pacing the Rockets this fall with a 74.5 stroke average in two tournaments. Senior Spencer Shoemaker and freshman Muhammed Afif Mohd Fathi are tied for second place on the team with a 74.7 mark. Junior Rasmus Broholt Lind possesses a 76.2 average in his first season as a Rocket.

Freshman David Amm will be playing in his first collegiate tournament after representing his native Zimbabwe in the Men's World Amateur Team Golf Championship on Sept. 4-8 in Maynooth, Ireland.

ESPN3 COVERAGE
A portion of Tuesday's final round can be viewed on ESPN3 with a scheduled air time of 12:30-3:00 p.m. It will mark the first time The University of Toledo's Department of Communication and Athletic Department have teamed up to televise the sport of golf. Since its inception in the 2015-16 academic year, the Rockets have produced events for ESPN3 in baseball, basketball, soccer, softball, swimming & diving, tennis and volleyball.

THE FIELD
UT will entertain a 12-team field that includes Butler, Dayton, Fresno State, Louisiana, Mercer, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Saint Mary's (Calif.), St. Bonaventure, Tennessee and Virginia with Ohio State sending select individuals to participate. The Cavaliers, Volunteers, Gaels, Broncos and Dons were each ranked in the Top 60 of Golfstat's final national rankings last year.
