Toledo, Ohio— Senior setter
Carly Townsend of Toledo women's volleyball was named Mid-American Conference West Division Setter of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Townsend helped the Rockets win both of their matches in five sets on Saturday, when UT defeated Bucknell and Youngstown State at the Zips Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
The Germantown, Wis. native was excellent against the Bison and Penguins, averaging 11.1 assists per set over the course of both matches. Townsend tallied 54 assists in the first match against Bucknell and 57 against YSU, both of which were played consecutively. She also contributed offensively, adding two kills and three blocks against the Bison, plus four kills and two blocks against YSU.
Townsend missed the first match of the season and only played two sets total during the season-opening tournament, but since then she has been a mainstay on the court for the Rockets. She is averaging 9.52 assists per set and 10.7 during Toledo's current four-match winning streak.
Townsend and the rest of the Rockets begin MAC play this weekend with trips to Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.
