Toledo to Tee Off Fall Season in East Lansing

TOLEDO, Ohio — The University of Toledo women's golf team tees off the fall portion of its 2018-19 campaign in addition to its first season under Head Coach Jenny Coluccio this weekend at Michigan State's 35th annual Mary Fossum Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be played on Saturday-Sunday, Sept. 15-16.
Coluccio was named the Rockets' head coach in June following five seasons as an assistant coach at Illinois. During her stay in Champaign, she helped the Fighting Illini vault nearly 100 spots in Golfstat's national rankings and appear in a pair of NCAA Regionals.
Coluccio inherits a veteran squad led by senior Pinyada Kuvanun, who qualified for the NCAA Regionals last spring after earning first-team All-MAC honors. UT's roster also includes a pair of all-conference selections, junior Saranlak Tumfong (second-team in 2017-18) and senior Pimchanok Kawil (second-team in 2016-17).
"Our first weeks of practice have been very productive and the ladies have brought great energy each day," Coluccio said. "We are starting a year full of new beginnings. Our focus as a whole is 'Little by little…One travels far.' We are looking to put our skills and preparation to the test in each event, learn from the experience and apply what we learned to our next opportunity. This group has worked hard and been very receptive to my coaching style, and I couldn't have asked for more from them."

THE FIELD
• Sixteen schools are competing in the Mary Fossum Invitational. The tournament will be played at the par-72, 6,334-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.
• Toledo will be competing against a strong field that includes seven 2018 NCAA squads – Florida, Georgia, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State, Old Dominion, Texas Tech and Virginia. Also participating are Eastern Michigan, Indiana, Kansas State, Mercer, Mississippi State, Northern Illinois, Rutgers and Sacramento State.

ROCKETS AT THE MARY FOSSUM INVITATIONAL
• Toledo has made 17 appearances at the Mary Fossum Invitational and posted its best finish ever with a runner-up showing last fall. Kuvanun (71-71-77=219) and Kawil (73-74-75=222) paced UT by placing fourth and tying for fifth, respectively.
• The Rockets also notched third-place showings in the Fossum event in 2014 and 2015.
• Graduate assistant coach Sathika Ruenreong earned medalist honors in 2015 by shooting an even-par 216 (75-69-72). She birdied two of her final three holes to win the third tournament title of her career.

ON THE HORIZON
• Toledo will be off the next two weekends and returns to action on Friday-Sunday, Oct. 5-7 at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational in Lexington, Ky.
