Toledo Secures 77-70 OT Win vs. Findlay in Exhibition Action

TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo secured a 77-70 come-from-behind, overtime triumph against Findlay on Saturday in exhibition action in Savage Arena.  

The Rockets outscored the Oilers 35-18 in the fourth quarter and extra period to post the heart-pounding victory.

Senior Mikaela Boyd paced UT's attack with 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists, while classmate Kaayla McIntyre had 15 points, a game-high 12 boards and a contest-best three rejections. 

Also scoring in double digits were junior Mariella Santucci with 13 points  and junior Sara Rokkanen and sophomore Tatyana Davis had 12 points each.

Rokkanen shot a blistering 4-of-5 from beyond the arc, including one with only 3.5 seconds left in regulation to force overtime. The Helsinki, Finland native followed that triple up with another for the first points in the extra period to give the Midnight Blue & Gold a lead it would not relinquish.

As a team, UT shot 40.9 percent (27-of-66) from the field, including 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from three-point land, and 55.2 percent (16-of-29) from the charity stripe.    

Anna Hintz led the NCAA Division II member Oilers with a game-high 21 points, followed by Ellissa Ellerbrook and Allie Thobe had 17 and 12 points, respectively.

FIRST QUARTER
* The Rockets benefited from seven points by Davis is span of less than four minutes to take a 20-18 lead after 10 minutes. The Madison, Ga. native converted a pair of layups and a triple from the corner to give the home team a two-point cushion.

SECOND QUARTER
* Toledo was limited to nine points in the second period and found itself down 33-29 at the intermission. Boyd scored all nine points for UT. 

* With UT struggling to score, Findlay took advantage of a 12-0 run to take a four-point lead at the intermission. Five different players contributed points in the rally to turn a two-point deficit after the opening quarter into a four-point advantage at halftime.

THIRD QUARTER
* The Oilers extended their lead to double figures, 52-42, after 30 minutes of competition. Hintz fueled the strong quarter for the visitors with seven points, including a deep triple.

FOURTH QUARTER
* Toledo scored 11 of the first 15 points to close the gap to 56-51 at the 2:30 mark. The home team received four points from both Boyd and McIntyre to make it a two-possession difference.

* The Oilers stopped UT's initial run with a pair of baskets by Thobe, but Santucci followed with a traditional three-point play and Rokkanen drilled a last-second trey to force overtime. 

* The Rockets outscored Findlay 19-9 in the quarter to draw the teams even at 61-61.
 
OVERTIME
* Rokkanen nailed her game-high fourth three-point field goal for the initial points in the extra period to give Toledo a lead it would not surrender.

* Findlay trimmed the margin to one point on two occasions in overtime, but UT responded with consecutive baskets by Santucci to deny a potential comeback.

* The Rockets shot an efficient 60 percent (3-of-5) from the floor and 75.0 percent (9-of-12) from the free throw line in the extra period to secure the seven-point home win. 

WHAT'S NEXT
* UT will open its regular season at 2018 America East Conference champion Maine on Saturday, Nov. 10. Tipoff is slated for 1:00 p.m. in the Cross Insurance Center.
