Toledo Falls at Maine in Season Opener, 73-59

BANGOR, Maine – Toledo (0-1) suffered a 73-59 setback at Maine in Saturday's season opener in the Cross Insurance Center.
The Black Bears (1-0) buried 13 three-point field goals and had four players in double figures to snap UT's two-game winning streak in season openers. Â
Senior Kaayla McIntyre led the Rockets with a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds. The 2017-18 third-team All-MAC honoree knocked down 11-of-20 shots from the field, the eighth time she has scored at least 20 points as a collegiate.
Sophomore Tanaya Beacham and senior Sarah St-Fort were UT's next high scorers with nine and six points, respectively.Â
As a team, Toledo shot 40.0 percent (24-of-60) from the field, including 23.1 percent (3-of-13) from three-point land, and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the free throw line.
The trio of Blanca Millan, Parise Rossignol and Dor Saar accounted for 11 of Maine's 13 treys and paced the 2017-18 America East Conference champions with 18, 15 and 15 points, respectively. The home team also received 11 points from Fanny Wadling to avenge last year's 65-64 overtime setback against Toledo on Nov. 30 in Savage Arena. Â

* Rossignol buried four of her game-high five triples to put the home team ahead 18-13 at the conclusion of the opening period. The 2017-18 AEC Sixth Player of the Year shot a blistering 4-of-6 from beyond the arc to force UT to give Maine a lead it would not give up.
SECOND QUARTER
* The Black Bears continued to shot the ball well from three-point range, benefiting from three treys by Saar to extend their advantage to 43-28 at the intermission.
* Maine connected on an impressive 42.1 percent (8-of-19) from three-point range in the opening half, while the Rockets were limited to 16.7 percent (1-of-6).
* McIntyre single handedly kept UT within striking distance, scoring the team's final 10 points and had a game-high 14 at the break. The Toledo native shot an efficient 7-of-11 from the floor in only 13 minutes.
THIRD QUARTER
* The Rockets utilized a 10-2 run midway through the period to pull with 12 points, 50-38, before Maine's Millan ripped off nine straight points to make the score 60-41. The 2017-18 first-team all-league recipient knocked down three field goals in the quarter, including one triple, and had a pair of charity tosses in a little over one minute to set the difference at 19 points heading into the final stanza.

* The Rockets did not go down without a fight, but they would get no closer than 14 points the rest of the way, falling by a score of 73-59 in their season opener.

Toledo will host Rocket Women's Basketball's Education Day on Wednesday, Nov. 14 in conjunction with its match-up against Iona. The opening tip against the Gaels is slated for 11:00 a.m. in Savage Arena.
