Kaayla McIntyre andĀ
Mikaela Boyd with 10 and nine points, respectively. Boyd just missed posting her first double-double of the year, finishing with a season-high 11 boards.
The Rockets had difficulty finding their offensive rhythm against the 2018 NCAA Tournament participants, shooting 28.6 percent (16-of-56) from the floor, including 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from three-point range, and 46.7 percent (14-of-30) from the free throw line.
Lauren Cannatelli and Jayla Scaife did a bulk of the damage for the Flyers (2-2), pouring in a game-high 18 points each. The duo was lights out shooting the ball from beyond the arc, hitting eight of their squad's 10 three-point field goals.
As a team, Dayton knocked down 50.0 percent (10-of-20) from three-point land and 44.2 percent (23-of-52) overall from the field to bounce back from consecutive losses.
FIRST QUARTER
* CannatelliĀ came out of the opening tip on fire, draining back-to-back triples to give the home team a 14-13 lead after the first period. It proved to be an advantage Dayton would not give up. Ā
* Boyd kept the Rockets within striking distance at the outset, converting a trio of layups to make it a one-point difference following the opening 10 minutes.
SECOND QUARTER
* UD extended its margin to double figures at the intermission, 31-20, on the strength of four more treys in the second period.
* The Flyers converted a sizzling 7-of-12 shots from three-point range in the first half, highlighted by three each from Cannatelli and Scaife, while Toledo was limited to 1-of-6.
* Offensively, UT was held without a field goal for the final seven-plus minutes before the break and found itself down 11 points.
THIRD QUARTER
* The Rockets could not make a dent in the deficit in the third period, as Dayton outscored the Midnight Blue & Gold 17-11.
FOURTH QUARTER
* UT did not go quietly though, and used a mini 5-0 burst to pull within 12 points, 52-40. Boyd converted a traditional three-point play and Rokkanen quickly followed with a fast-break layup to force UD to burn a pair of timeouts within one minute of each other. Ā
* Unfortunately, the Rockets' deficit was too big and they were not able to get any closer, resulting in a 70-49 setback. Ā Ā
