DAYTON, Ohio - Toledo (2-1) will begin a season-long five-game road swing on Wednesday, Nov. 21 when it travels to Atlantic 10 power Dayton (1-2) in UD Arena. The opening tip against the Flyers is slated for 7:00 p.m. and will be shown on ESPN+.
UT is coming off impressive back-to-back home victories against Iona, 84-38, and A-10 member Duquesne, 65-52, over the course of the last seven days. The key to the Midnight Blue & Gold defeating both the Gaels and Dukes was its offensive efficiency. Toledo shot 52.6 percent (60-of-114) from the field and totaled 42 assists with only 26 turnovers. The Rockets also dominated the boards, outrebounding the opposition by an average of 14.0 caroms, 42.5-28.5.
In Sunday's match-up against the Dukes, UT blew open a tied game in the third quarter with a pivotal 12-3 run to create a lead it would not relinquish. Â Â
Â
Junior Mariella Santucci paced Toledo with a season-high 19 points, two off her career high, to go along with a squad-tying best seven boards and three assists.Â
Senior Kaayla McIntyre added 12 points with seven caroms, while sophomore Tanaya Beacham had a season-high 10 points off the bench. McIntyre and Beacham's strong efforts helped the Midnight Blue & Gold post a sizable 40-28 edge in points in the paint.
Through the first three games this season, McIntyre is averaging a team-high 17.3 ppg and 6.5 ppg. The 2018-19 team captain currently ranks third in the MAC in overall field-goal percentage (.649, 24-of-37), tied for 11th in scoring, tied for 12th in rejections, tied for 13th in overall rebounding and defensive boards (4.7 rpg) and tied for 15th in offensive caroms (2.0 rpg).
Toledo will square off against a Dayton squad has lost its last two contests at winning its season opener, most recently dropping an 84-79 decision vs. Northeastern on Saturday. Jayla Scaife paced three Flyers in double figures with 19 points and nine boards, followed by Kyla Whitehead with 14 points and a game-high 11 caroms.
UD features an offense with four players scoring in double figures, paced by Julia Chandler's 18.0 ppg and 6.3 rpg. They are 1-1 at home this season.
Toledo and Dayton will compete for the 10th-straight year and 25th time overall. Dayton leads the all-time series, 13-11, but the Rockets have won the last two match-ups against their interstate foe. The Flyers also hold a slim 6-5 edge in games played vs. Toledo in UD Arena.
A season ago, Toledo registered an impressive 68-50 victory in Savage Arena (Nov. 22).Â
Following tomorrow's match-up at Dayton, Toledo will travel to Horizon League member  Valparaiso (1-4) on Monday, Nov. 26. The opening tip against the Crusaders is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (CT) in the Athletics-Recreation Center and will be shown on ESPN+.
UT and Valpo will meet for the second time on the hardwood. The Rockets dropped a 63-61 decision against the Crusaders in the championship game of the 2013 Toledo Invite in Savage Arena (Dec. 7).
