UT Hosts Iona on Wednesday in Conjunction with Education Day

TOLEDO, OHIO - Toledo (0-1) will look to bounce back from a season-opening loss when the Midnight Blue & Gold entertains Iona (0-2) on Wednesday, Nov. 14 in its home opener. The game is slated for 11:00 a.m. in Savage Arena and will be shown on ESPN+.
Toledo produced a 12-4 (.750) mark in home contests in 2017-18. In 10 years under head coach Tricia Cullop, UT is 124-36 (.775) in home games, including 55-16 (.775) against non-conference foes.
UT will also host Rocket Women's Basketball's Education Day in conjunction with tomorrow's match-up against the Gaels. A crowd of at least 2,500 students, teachers and fans are expected to be in attendance.
The Rockets are coming off a 73-59 season-opening setback at Maine on Saturday in the Cross Insurance Center.
The Black Bears (1-0) buried 13 three-point field goals and had four players in double figures to avenge last year's 65-64 overtime setback at Toledo on Nov. 30.. Â
Senior Kaayla McIntyre led the Rockets with a game-high 24 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Tanaya Beacham and senior Sarah St-Fort were UT's next high scorers with nine and six points, respectively.Â
The trio of Blanca Millan, Parise Rossignol and Dor Saar accounted for 11 of Maine's 13 treys and paced the 2017-18 America East Conference champions with 18, 15 and 15 points, respectively.Â
Iona has dropped its first two games this year, most recently suffering a 61-35 loss vs. St. John's on Friday at home.Â
Morgan Rachu led the Gaels with a game-high 16 points, a squad-best seven boards and two thefts while playing all 40 minutes.
Toledo and Iona will meet for the second-consecutive year and fifth time overall. The Rockets lead the series, 4-0, most recently claiming a 74-57 road triumph on Nov. 27, 2017. UT also secured a 92-36 home victory on Nov. 23, 2002, a 68-60 win in the championship game of the 2010 Iona Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 28 in New Rochelle, N.Y. and a 54-42 home triumph on Dec. 1, 2011.
A season ago, senior Mikaela Boyd paced three Rockets in double figures with 14 points and 11 caroms, followed by McIntyre and Jada Woody with 10 points each to help the Rockets claim the 17-point victory in the Hynes Center.
As a team, UT connected on a respectable 54.2 percent (26-of-48) from the field, including a sensational 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from beyond the arc, and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) from the charity stripe.Â
Treyanna Clay led Iona with a game-high 15 points and 10 boards, while Alexis Lewis had 12 and Amelia Motz and Tilasha Okey-Williams chipped in with 10 points each.
