Rockets Look to Swim Past Penguins Saturday

Toledo, Ohio - The Toledo women's swimming and diving team hosts Youngstown State this Saturday in the Rockets' final dual meet of the fall. Push-off is set for 1:00 p.m. in the UT Student Rec Center. Fans unable to make it out to the pool can watch the meet live on ESPN3 here.

"I'm looking forward to seeing everyone continue to improve," head coach Jonas Persson said. "Last weekend was a great test for us and most of the team did well, but we have a lot of improvements to make. I'm hoping that each swimmer and diver is eager to race our last home dual meet of the fall. I also want to see the team excited to race and have fun doing it. I think a lot of them will see that the training that they are doing is working. It should be a great meet against a very well-coached YSU team."

Last time out
The Rockets are coming off a home and away weekend that saw UT host Eastern Michigan on Friday and take on Oakland and Rutgers in the second tri-meet of the year on Saturday. Against EMU, Toledo recorded four event victories and 16 top-three finishers. Junior Duda Sales had a strong day for UT, recording two individual victories in the 100 and 200 fly events, finishing in 56.15 and 2:05.89 respectively. The Rockets also saw strong outings from freshman diver Joelle Gallais. Gallais won the 1-meter dive with a score of 240.98 and placed second in the 3-meter (231.15).

Saturday was another strong meet for the Midnight Blue and Gold. Junior Bec Welke won the 100 breastroke after finishing in 1:05.33, almost a full second ahead of Oakland's Taylor Balley (1:06.29). In the 200 back, sophomore Kristen Straszacker took third after touching in in 2:04.13, and freshman Ashley Jeffreys finished right on her heels, taking fourth in 2:04.44.

Toledo's other three top finishes came from senior Jessica Avery, and freshmen Jovana Duric and Samantha Ekleberry. Avery took third in the 200 breast, tapping in at 2:26.35. Duric's contribution came in the 1,000 free where she also took third after finishing in 10:36.93. Ekleberry rounded out the day with a third place finish in the 500 free, finishing in 5:10.06.
