TOLEDO, Ohio - The University of Toledo women's swimming and diving team travels south to rival Bowling Green for a two-day battle with the Falcons on Friday-Saturday, Feb. 2-3 at Cooper Pool.
"This is a very exciting meet. We are splitting the meet into two days and competing in almost every event included in the MAC Championships in three weeks," said Toledo head coach Jonas Persson. "It's a perfect opportunity to gauge where everyone is in their end-of-season training. Swimming against our rival adds a tremendous amount of excitement for the athletes and to the meet."
The Rockets are coming off of a 166-128 win over IUPUI in their last outing. Individually, sophomore Bec Welke contributed winning performances in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. Toledo was also strong in the freestyle, with wins from senior Allison Dicke (50 free), freshman Lisa Eriksson (100 free) and freshman Macarena Garcia (500 free).
Last season, the Rockets and Bowling Green met head-to-head twice. The two battled it out again in the MAC Championships, with BGSU edging Toledo by 54 points for sixth place.
"Looking at the season results of the two teams, we are very well matched and it should be a great meet," Persson said. "Hopefully this meet is the start of a tradition that we can continue and have both sides look forward to each season."
