Rockets Running in NCAA Great Lakes Regionals on Friday

TOLEDO, Ohio - The Toledo men's and women's cross country teams compete in the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet in Terre Haute, Ind. on Friday, Nov. 10.
The women's 6k race begins at 11:15 a.m. with the men's race following at 12:15 p.m. Both races will take place on the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
The Rocket women will compete against 32 other teams with a total of 297 individual competitors. The race will include five nationally ranked teams in No. 8 Michigan, No. 17 Wisconsin, No. 21 Michigan State, No. 25 Ohio State and No. 27 Eastern Michigan.
The Rocket men takes on 29 other teams with a total of 268 individual competitors. Nationally ranked No. 10 Michigan, No. 15 Michigan State and No. 25 Wisconsin highlight the event.
Sophomore Athena Welsh and the Toledo women's team ran to a second-place finish in the Mid-American Conference Championships on Oct. 28.
Welsh led the team with a 10th-place mark in 21:10.7. Seniors Janelle Noe (21:31.1) and Stephanie Barlow (21:36.7) crossed the line in 15th place and 20th place, respectively, for a team that tallied 99 points in total.
Sophomore Dismas Koech led the men's team to a ninth-place finish in the MAC Championships with 214 points. Koech was the first Rocket to cross the line in 35 place in a time of 25:41.7.
Qualifiers will move on to compete in the NCAA Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18 in Louisville, Ky.
