Toledo, Ohio – The Toledo women's swimming and diving team hosted its second and final tri-meet of the season on Saturday, sweeping Findlay and Tiffin by the scores of 165-127 and 208-44, respectively, at the UT Recreation Center pool.
"It was a very good day for our team overall," said head coach Jonas Persson. "We regained a lot of confidence as a unit. We wanted our swimmers and divers to gain confidence in their main events, and we definitely accomplished that today."
Toledo set a pool record in the first swimming event of the afternoon, as the Rockets' 400-yard medley relay team of sophomore Maureen O'Sullivan, sophomore Bec Welke, sophomore Duda Sales and freshman Alida Ramden combined for a time of 3:47.71. The relay team was highlighted by Ramden posting a time of 51.59 in her portion of the race.
"Our goal was to get two pool records today, and I think it shows a lot of character for us to set the new pool record in the 400 medley relay," said Persson. "We've been training hard lately, and this was a great meet for us to have before the Zippy Invitational in two weeks."
Several strong underclassman performances highlighted the meet for the Rockets on the afternoon. Freshman Macarena Garcia won two events, the 200 fly and 1000 free. Sophomore Izzy Jones also secured two event victories for the Rockets, the 200 and 500 yard freestyle. UT also scored their first overall diving victories of the season, with freshman diver Megan Peepers taking first place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving competitions.
"I am very proud of how Megan and Elayna did today," said graduate assistant diving coach Gabriella Agostino. "They showed improvements from the last meet and really stepped up. I am excited to get back into the pool to keep pushing towards our goals."
The meet was recorded by Buckeye Cable Sports Network and will be shown on a tape delay on BCSN Â tonight at 11:30 pm. The meet will also be available to stream on demand on ESPN3.
