Toledo Entertains Louisiana on Saturday in Preseason WNIT at Home

TOLEDO, Ohio - Toledo (1-1) will wrap up play in the Preseason WNIT against Sun Belt Conference member Louisiana-Lafayette (1-1) on Saturday, Nov. 18 in the friendly confines of Savage Arena. The match-up against the Rajin' Cajuns is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. and will be streamed live on ESPN3.Â
The Rockets are a stellar 113-32 (.779) in home match-ups in nine-plus years under head coach Tricia Cullop, including 50-16 (.758) against non-conference foes.
UT has split its two season-opening contests in the 24th-annual tourney with a 74-66 home win over Saint Francis (Pa.) last Friday and a 90-55 road loss to No. 5 Louisville on Tuesday.
The Rockets are taking part in the Preseason WNIT for the fourth time in program history and second under coach Cullop.Â
Toledo also participated in the event during the 1994-95, 1998-99 and 2010-11 seasons, tallying a 3-5 (.375) all-time record.
The Rockets feature a scoring attack with junior Kaayla McIntyre (15.5) and junior Jay-Ann Bravo-Harriott (15.0) averaging double-digit points per game.
The Midnight Blue & Gold is shooting a combined 39.2 percent (47-of-120) from the floor, including 20.0 percent (7-of-35) from beyond the arc, and 57.1 percent (28-of-49) from the charity stripe through the first two contests to earning the split. Toledo has also posted 16.0 assists against 20.0 turnovers.
The Rockets will face a Louisiana-Lafayette squad that also split its first two contests, claiming a 66-57 home win vs. New Orleans on Friday and an 83-62 road loss to No. 20 Texas A&M on Sunday. The Rajin' Cajuns are led by Skyler Goodwin and Simone Fields, averaging 13.0 and 12.0 points per game.
Toledo and Louisiana-Lafayette will meet for the first time on the hardwood.
UT is 3-2 (.600) all-time against teams from the Sun Belt Conference (SBC) (1-2 vs. Arkansas State, 2-0 vs. Georgia State), including 2-1 (.667) under coach Cullop.
The last SBC school the Rockets played was GSU, against whom they claimed a 46-43 victory in the championship game of the GSU Holiday & Hoops Tournament in Atlanta on Dec. 30, 2012.
Following tomorrow's match-up, Toledo will entertain Atlantic 10 power Dayton on Wednesday, Nov. 22. The opening tip against the 2017 NCAA Championships participant Flyers is slated for 7:00 p.m. in Savage Arena and will be streamed live on ESPN3.
A season ago, UT claimed a 76-72 road victory against Dayton before 9,002 screaming fans in UD Arena to snap a four-game losing skid in the series.
