Rockets in Eighth Place Following 36 Holes of Cardinal Cup

Simpsonville, Ky. – Toledo finished day one at Louisville's Cardinal Cup alone in eighth place with a score of 25-over-par 601 at the par-72, 6,250-yard University of Louisville Golf Club.Â
"I thought we played great on a very challenging golf course against probably the top tournament field we'll see all season," Head Coach Nicole Hollingsworth said. "The course was long and had some really fast greens and provided us a true test of golf. Having said that, I think we left some shots out there and I'm looking forward to seeing how we perform in the final round tomorrow."
Juniors Pimchanok Kawil and Pinyada Kuvanun are leading the way for the Rockets at two-over par 146. Kawil fired a two-under par 70 in the morning before registering a four-over 76 in the afternoon. Kuvanun carded identical 73s and a had chance to finish under par in the afternoon before bogeying her final two holes.
Sophomore Saranlak Tumfong rebounded from an 11-over par 83 in the morning with an even-par 72 and is tied for 48th place at 11-over par 155.
Rounding out the Rocket lineup are juniors Hannah Kochendoerfer  (80-78=158) and Natcha Daengpiem (79-81=160) tied for 60th and 69th place, respectively.
The tournament includes seven teams ranked among Golfstat's Top 50. The host No. 41 Cardinals lead the 15-team field at three-under par. No. 16 Kent State is second at nine-over par 585, while No. 15 Illinois is in third place at 11-over par 587.
Louisville's Lauren Hartlage holds a commanding nine-stroke lead in the race for medalist honors after carding an impressive 10-under par 134 (69-65) over the first 36 holes.
KSU freshman Kory Nielsen is tied for second place with Virginia Tech's Amanda Hollandsworth at one-under par 143.
The final round will begin at 9:15 a.m. tomorrow with the scoring available at Golfstat.com.
