BOWLING GREEN, OH - Agata Forkasiewicz and Madeline Pacella placed first in the 60-meter dash and the high jump, respectively, to lead the Rockets in the Tom Wright Classic on Friday evening in the Perry Fieldhouse.
Forkasiewicz made her Toledo debut in stellar fashion as the Wroclaw, Poland native set a meet record in the 60m with a time of 7.43. Her 7.43 qualifies her for the Mid-American Conference Championships, is the fastest time by a MAC sprinter this season and falls just 0.01 short of the UT school record set by Sherrell Wimbs in 1992.Â
Christina Johnson (7.79) and Nautica Hill (7.82) finished in second and third, respectively, in an all Midnight Blue & Gold final.
"Agata is at a super high level and we expected that out of her," said Toledo head coach Linh Nguyen. "For her to run 7.43, miss the school record by a hundredth of a second, took the MAC lead and set a meet record, that's pretty good.
Pacella matched her career-best by clearing the bar at 1.76 meters which was good enough to win the event. Pacella previously cleared the same height at the Hillsdale Gina Relays during last year's outdoor season.
The Rockets finished in the top three spots in the 800-meter run as Maja Pacaric won the race in 2:18.60. Emily Wyrick (2:21.05) and Julia Mendiola (2:21.23) finished within a second of each other for second and third position.
Maddie Jarrett and Alissa Jenkins had a friendly competition as the only two entries in the pole vault. Jarrett won the event by clearing 3.55 meters.
The relay quartet of Hill, Dandadeua da Silva, Kristiana Collins and Yana Khabina cruised to victory in the 4x400, crossing the line in 3:58.46.
"I'm very happy with the meet," Nguyen stated. "It was a low-key atmosphere but the ladies performed very well."
The Rockets travel to Huntington, West Virginia for the Thundering Herd Invitational on Friday, Jan. 27 and Saturday, Jan. 28 at Marshall University.
