Toledo Finishes in 10th Place at Inverness Intercollegiate

TOLEDO, OH – Toledo finished in 10th place at the Inverness Intercollegiate on Tuesday. The 12th-annual tournament was played at the historic Inverness Club (Par-71, 7,323 Yards). The Rockets posted a team score of 35-over par 887 (295-295-297).

UT was paced by freshman Thomas Thurloway who tied for 16th place at two-over par 215 (71-72-72). Thurloway has now placed in the Top 16 in all three tourneys this fall and been Toledo's top finisher in each of the last two events.

Junior Stephen Watts was Toledo's the next highest finisher at eight-over par 221 (78-71-72) and tied for the 39th spot, followed by junior Colin Joseph at 17-over par 230 (72-79-79) and tied for 60th place. Rounding out UT's lineup were sophomore Jamie Knipe who tied for the 62nd spot at 18-over par 231 (74-83-74) and freshmen Joe Bryce who finished in 70th place at 22-over par 235 (79-73-83), respectively.

In addition, Toledo had two players compete as individuals in the fall's third event. Freshman Grant Godfrey tied for 51st place at 13-over par 226 (76-77-73) and sophomore Spencer Shoemaker tied for 67th place at 21-over par 234 (79-83-72). Shoemaker equaled Thurloway and Watts for the team's low round of the day with a score of one-over par 72.

SEC member Auburn captured the team championship after shooting a tourney-record nine-under par 843 (280-281-282) and held a three-shot advantage over runner-up and ACC member Duke at six-under par 846 (277-281-288). The Tigers had three players finish in the Top Four to eclipse the tourney's lowest 54-hole score by a whopping 19 shots, previously held by Florida State (862) in 2007.

Individually, Michigan's Nick Carlson (69-73-67) and Duke's Jake Shuman (70-71-68) shared medalist honors at four-under par 209. The two competitors then went to a one-hole playoff where Carlson emerged victorious.

UT will return to the links on Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 1-2 to participate in The Macdonald Cup in New Haven, CT.
