Rockets Race in Hillsdale "Gina" Relays This Weekend
4/28/2016 3:03:00 PM | Women's Track and Field
Hillsdale, MI – The Toledo track & field program will continue its season at the Hillsdale "Gina" Relays beginning with the 5,000m race on Thursday, April 28 at 6:45 p.m. The event will also take place on Friday, April 29 and Saturday, April 30.
Â
"Training is going well right now," head coach Linh Nguyen said. "We're racing everybody this weekend. A lot of the distance runners ran their main events last week and will run down an event at Hillsdale. They will work on speed and use this as a training event. Everyone else will be running their main event."
Â
Seven student-athletes across nine events have qualified for the Mid-American Conference Outdoor Championships so far this season. Two student-athletes have qualified in multiple events. Senior Kyesha Neal met the mark in the shot put with a toss of 15.47m and the discus with a 49.55m mark. Senior Liz Weiler has qualified in the 800m with a time of 2:11.28 and the 3,000m steeplechase with a time of 10:10.89.
Â
Weiler's mark of 10:10.89 in the 3,000m steeplechase was run last weekend at the Virginia Challenge and earned her MAC Runner of the Week honors. She currently holds the best time in the MAC and the 11th-best time in the NCAA East Region.
Â
"Liz ran 10 seconds faster than she did at Stanford and is now handily in the first round of the NCAA East Regional," Nguyen said. "We look for her to take time off her mark each time as she gains more experience running that event."
Â
UT also has two runners in the top-five of the conference 10,000m standings. Senior Brooke Tullis holds the top spot with a time of 34:11.83, while freshman Jennifer Lichter sits in third with a time of 34:38.83.
Â
Toledo will be back in action on Friday, May 5 for the Toledo Invite. The home meet is the last race before the MAC Championships. Â
