Toledo Wraps Up Final Full Day of European Trip with Stroll Through Las Ramblas

UT began today's adventure with a stroll through the Las Ramblas. Did you know that the Las Ramblas is often the first landmark that most tourists identify with the city of Barcelona? It is the central most boulevard, approximately 1.2 kilometers long, which cuts through the heart of the city centre with Port Vell (near the cruise port terminal) at the southern most end and Plaça Catalunya at the northern most end.
The team once again split into groups and explored the fresh markets, restaurants, shops, souvenir stands and human statue art the Las Ramblas had to offer. The players came back with plenty of gifts for family and friends, so I think it is safe to say the trip was well worth it.
We returned to the hotel at around 12:30 p.m. and had the rest of the afternoon free to do further exploring of the city. Most people stayed close to the hotel and visited the nearby mall, while others ventured into cabs and did see more sightseeing.
With a busy night ahead of the team and most likely no internet capabilities, I'm going to preview the rest of the day's activities. The whole travel party is meeting at 6:15 p.m. for a farewell dinner at the La Gavina Restaurant. Immediately after supper, a majority of the group is going to watch FC Barcelona take on Athletic Club at Camp Nou in the Supercopa Spanish Final 2nd Leg.
In the paragraphs below, redshirt freshman Lindsay Dorr shares her thoughts on this once-in-a lifetime trip.
"This entire trip has been awesome. I feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to go to three unbelievable places. I think this experience has opened up my eyes and helped me realize how much more there is out in the world other than the small bubble we currently live in in Toledo and our hometowns.
I also really enjoyed getting to see where Janice (Monakana), Jay-Ann (Bravo-Harriott) and Inma (Zanoguera) grew up and get a small taste of their culture. I'm just truly blessed to have this experience."
Toledo is slated to fly out of Barcelona International Airport tomorrow morning and make the 11-hour voyage to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Following an approximate two-hour layover, the Rockets will make their way to Detroit Metro Airport to officially close out the trip. Â Â Â Â
