Toledo Ventures Around Palma on Bikes and Eats at Inma's House on Day Six
8/13/2015 7:39:00 PM | Women's Basketball
The Rockets started the day with a three-hour bike tour through the streets of Palma. The team received a close up view of the many beaches on the island, as well as the historic sites and rich heritage that makes this place so attractive. After returning to the hotel, UT had the afternoon free to hit the beach before heading to Inma Zanoguera's parent's summer home for an unbelievable dinner.
In the paragraphs below, senior Brenae Harris talks about the day's adventures.
"We started the day off with a bike ride around the city of Palma. The best part about the tour was that we didn't just ride around, but we stopped at various places along the way and learned about the history of the capital of Mallorca. We also learned about the different people who first migrated to this land and which cultures where behind all of the architecture as well.
Our tour guide also informed us about the different battles the island and its people took part in, and by the end of the three hours, we kind of got a sense of how their culture was established.
I think the team truly enjoyed the ride, because it was a great opportunity for us to learn more about Inma, see where she grew up, and how she became the person she is today.
After an afternoon of fun in the sun at the beach, we had dinner with Inma and a lot of her friends and family. And the experience was nothing short of amazing.
Although we all come from completely different backgrounds and cultures, the whole group coming together tonight will be something I will never forget. They were more than welcoming and they didn't make fun of me and my less-than-impressive Spanish.
The food was amazing, and trying new things had me nervous at first, but I'm glad I took the chance.
We also met some of Inma's high school teammates and it was like I had known them my whole life.
The team as a whole and everyone who made the trip this evening was able to take in a piece of Inma's culture that we will forever be grateful for. It was an opportunity of a lifetime and it felt like we were all family. I'm truly blessed to have gotten a chance to meet Inma's family and friends."
"Before I go though, I would like to thank the University of Toledo and everyone who helped make this trip possible. It has been and will be an experience I will never forget."
Tomorrow, Toledo will play the second of its two exhibition games on the trip. UT will battle IES CTEIB at 7:00 p.m. (local time). Before the Rockets hit the hardwood, they will have the morning and early afternoon to work on their tans a little more before putting on a local kids' clinic at Inma's former club.
