ORLANDO, FL – The Toledo women's tennis team won its second-straight match on Monday morning, defeating Quinnipiac 6-1 in the second of three spring break matchups.
“Today's match was much closer than the 6-1 score line,” graduate assistant coach James Thorp said. “We did a good job picking up some tight matches and playing well during the big points. Our energy today was much better than yesterday, but it is still a work in progress. It is easy to be positive and energetic when we are playing well, but we need to work on keeping it up every point of every match if we are going to be successful.”
The Rockets claimed the doubles point once again, as they have won the match's first point in 11 of 12 contests this season.
Senior Lexy Pitt and junior Emily Mazzola improved to 9-3 on the year with an 8-4 victory at the No. 2 doubles spot, while senior Pia Rygh and sophomore Lauren Thai won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles for their seventh win of the year.
The duo of junior Mackenzie Bowman and freshman Sidnay Huck went to tiebreaker at No. 3 doubles and came out on top, with an 8-7 victory to up their record to 6-2.
Toledo is now 24-9 overall in doubles matches.
In singles, the Midnight Blue & Gold won five of six matchups. Pitt recorded her team leading eighth win this year, and improved to 4-1 at the top singles spot with a 2-6, 6-4, 10-5 win.
Huck also earned a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 3 singles, winning 6-3, 4-6, 10-6.
Thai, junior Katelyn Nguyen and Mazzola rounded out the points for Toledo, with wins at Nos. 4, 5, and 6 singles, respectively.
