TOLEDO, OH – Toledo moved up one spot in Tuesday's final round to register a ninth-place showing at the Inverness Intercollegiate. The 10th-annual tourney was held at the renowned Inverness Club (Par 71, 7,300 Yards).
The Rockets fired a team score of 299 in today's third round to finish ahead of Austin Peay (308-301-309=918), Memphis (309-316-298=923) and Liberty (317-307-314=938). UT's final round score of 299 tied for the third-best tally of the day.
East Tennessee State won the 12-team field with a three-round score of 878 (+26) and held a two-stroke advantage over runner-up South Florida (880, +28. The Rockets finished 37 shots back of ETSU with a score of 63-over par 915 (316-300-299).
Individually, ETSU's Adrian Meronk captured medalist accolades at even-par 213 (73-70-70). Meronk was the only golfer to shoot in the red in today's final 18 holes.
Freshman Stephen Watts (Larne, Northern Ireland) (77-73-76) paced UT at 13-over par 226 and tied for 20th place. Senior Chris Selfridge (Castledawson, Northern Ireland) (76-78-75) was three strokes behind Watts at 16-over par 229 to finish tied for 27th, followed by junior Otto Black (Pinckney, MI) (84-76-73) at 20-over par 233 to end up tied for 36th place. Rounding out Toledo's lineup was freshman Colin Joseph (Loveland, OH) (89-73-75) and junior Thomas Shindler (Dublin, OH) (79-83-81), who tied for 48th place at 24-over par 237 and tied for 55th place at 30-over par 243, respectively.
The Rockets will return to the links on Sunday-Tuesday, Sept. 28-30 when they participate in the Badger Invitational in Madison, WI.
