TOLEDO, OH - Assistant Coach Anthony Stacey announced his resignation from the University of Toledo men's basketball program on Sunday, citing personal reasons. As a result of Stacey's decision, Head Coach Tod Kowalczyk has promoted graduate assistant video coordinator Nick Dials to assistant coach for the remainder of the 2014-15 campaign.
"I'm thankful for the opportunity that the University of Toledo and Coach Kowalczyk provided to me, but I have decided to step down from my position on the Rockets' coaching staff,'' Stacey said. "At this time, I can't fully commit myself to the program the way I need to due to personal reasons. I'm going to miss the players I got to know during my time on the staff, and I wish the team nothing but the best."
Stacey joined the Rockets' program this summer after coaching three seasons on the prep level at Medina High School.
"While I'm disappointed to see Anthony leave our program, I want to wish him well in his future endeavors," Kowalczyk said. "As a result of Anthony's departure, Nick Dials will move into the role of assistant coach for the remainder of the season. I'm very confident in Nick's abilities and want to thank him for taking over these responsibilities."
Dials was in his first year as the Rockets' graduate assistant video coordinator and came to Toledo after spending two years as an assistant men's basketball coach at NCAA Division II member Rogers State University. During his time in Claremore, OK, Dials helped the Hillcats compile a 37-22 ledger as a member of the Heartland Conference.
A former honorable-mention All-MAC honoree at Akron in 2007-08, Dials is familiar with the Mid-American Conference. Following his collegiate career, he served as director of operations at Miami (Ohio) in 2010-11 and as the Zips' Assistant Director of Operations in 2011-12.
"I want to thank Coach Kowalczyk for this opportunity," Dials said. "I've enjoyed working with the program since arriving in August, and I'm willing to do anything that's needed for the remainder of our season."
