Rockets With Three Flight Victories at Rocket Invitational

TOLEDO, OH - The Toledo women's tennis team recorded three flight wins this weekend at the Rocket Invite, and senior Pia Rygh and junior Katelyn Nguyen each went 3-0 in singles play.
Nguyen was the Flight 5 singles champion, posting an undefeated record and she also teamed up with Rygh in No. 3 doubles to secure a second flight win on the weekend.
Senior Lexy Pitt and junior Mackenzie Bowman rounded out the wins for the Midnight Blue & Gold in Flight 3 doubles.
On day one, Toledo won four of its five matchups in the hidden dual format, falling only to Duquesne in A singles.
The following day, the Rockets opened losing two of three matches in A singles to IPFW, earning a 6-0, 6-1 win by Rygh in the No. 3 spot, but they swept the Mastodons in B singles, with wins by Bowman, Nguyen and sophomore Kayleigh Hall.
To conclude the tournament, UT won five of its final six doubles matchups against IPFW and Duquesne.
The Rockets won seven of nine doubles matches on the weekend, as they used a number of different duos in the three doubles spots.
Bowman went 2-1 in singles play and was 3-0 in doubles to round out a successful weekend.
Rygh added a 3-0 record in doubles play to her undefeated singles record as well, teaming up with Bowman in one match and Nguyen in the other two.
The Rockets return to action on Thursday-Tuesday, Oct. 16-21 when the team travels to Champaign, IL for the ITA Midwest Regional.
