
Rockets Defeat Duquesne 141-121 in Season Opening Dual Meet

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Toledo women's swimming and diving team kicked off its season on a high note, defeating Duquesne on Saturday, 141-121.
“We had numerous ladies on the team step up today, but we all know that we've got a lot of work ahead of us,” head coach Chris Peters said. “I really like our team and what we're capable of this season. It's a really solid start and we're looking to build on it.”
The Rockets set two pool records in the meet, as senior Maria Bargardi won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.51 and junior Samantha Richart placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:05.86.
Toledo won eight of the 14 events on the day.
Freshman Katrin Streicher had a strong debut, winning the 100-yard butterfly and finishing runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly.
Juniors Mary Dombkowski and Brooke Edwards also posted wins for the Midnight Blue & Gold.
Fellow junior Lauren Comer scored two wins on the day, and finished second in her third event.
The Rockets are back in action on Friday, Oct. 24 when they open their home conference schedule against Eastern Michigan. The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:00 p.m. at the UT Student Recreation Center.
