TOLEDO, OH – The Toledo men's tennis team will carry its six-match win streak into a non-conference tilt against Denison on Saturday, March 23. The Rockets (17-6) and Big Red (6-3) are scheduled to square off inside the Toledo Shadow Valley Tennis Club at 1:00 p.m., as the home team prepares for Mid-American Conference play next weekend.
"Denison has a great tradition as a division three power, so they'll be a formidable challenge,” UT head coach Al Wermer said. “Our lineup has stabilized and I think guys will be eager for the single-match weekend"
The Midnight Blue & Gold last suffered defeat to DePaul by a score of 4-3 over a month ago and are currently riding the longest win streak since last year's eight-match run from Feb. 17, 2012 to March 9, 2012.
Most recently, the Rockets captured two victories last Saturday over Dayton and IPFW. UT cruised by the Flyers 7-0 at home and captured the nightcap win over the Mastodons by a score of 5-2 in Fort Wayne, IN.
Leading this year's squad are sophomores Tomas Stillman, Grant Adams and Nicky Wong, along with seniors Bryant Dudzik, Terence Weigand and Francisco Stuardo.
Stillman has held down the No. 1 singles slot all season and was recently tabbed the MAC Conference Player of the Week by the league office on Wednesday. The Harlingen, TX native is carrying a four-match win streak and an overall record of 11-7. Most recently he went a combined 4-0 at No. 1 singles and doubles during UT's doubleheader sweep over Dayton and IPFW last Saturday.
Adams carries the best individual record on the team with an 18-3 mark, primarily in the second singles flight. The second-year Rocket has come on strong this season and currently holds a 15-match win streak. Adams has not lost an individual contest since dropping a 4-6, 2-6 decision to Binghamton's Alexander Maisin.
The remaining four starters have combined for an impressive 47-21 ledger in individual play, while the doubles teams are 37-23.
UT will host Ball State in the MAC opener next Saturday, March 30 at 1:00 p.m. on the UT Outdoor Varsity Courts.
