MUNCIE, IN - For a fourth-straight meeting, Toledo and Ball State played a tightly-contested 4-3 match. But for a fourth-straight time, the Cardinals came out on top, defeating UT Saturday in Mid-American Conference action.
The Rockets won the doubles point, spearheaded by an 8-2 win at No. 2 by Knot Likitkumchorn and Leo Sarria and an 8-5 win at No. 3 by Bryant Dudzik and Terence Weigand.
Likitkumchorn went on to win his singles match, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 3, while Sven Burus took a three-set victory at No. 2 singles to lead the Rockets.
Toledo now stands at 8-12 (0-2 MAC), with five of those losses coming by a 4-3 decision. Ball State moved to 13-4 (1-0) with the win.
"We were close again, so close," said Al Wermer, head coach. "But there's a quote somewhere about a man and a boulder out in the field. He pounds and pounds and pounds, and after months and years, the boulder breaks in half. Was it that single blow that split the rock, or the persistence and accumulation of all the shots?"
The Rockets continue MAC action on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match at Northern Illinois.
