Detroit, MI - Toledo's bowl activities officially kicked off today with an appearance by UT head coach Tim Beckman and senior linebacker Archie Donald at the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl Coaches Media Luncheon at The Tiger Club in Comerica Park on Thursday.
Beckman and Donald joined their counterparts at Florida International, head coach Mario Cristobal and sophomore linebacker Winston Fraser in meeting with the Detroit media.
The Rockets face FIU in the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl in Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday, Dec. 26 (8:30 p.m./ESPN). Toledo (8-4, 7-1 MAC) finished in second place in the West Division of the Mid-American Conference. FIU (6-6, 6-2 Sun Belt) was co-champion of the Sun Belt Conference and will be making its first-ever bowl appearance.
Beckman told the gathering of reporters that he would like to see Ford Field, a mere 61 miles from the University of Toledo campus, become a home field for the Rockets.
"We want the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl to be a home-field advantage for us," said Beckman. "It's a great chance for us to showcase the University of Toledo at Ford Field in Detroit on Dec. 26."
Beckman said the location of the bowl also is a big plus for the players and their families.
"That's one of the neat things about being here for a bowl," Beckman said. "Our players can spend Christmas with their families because of the proximity of Ford Field to where many of our players are from."
