
Cross Country Races Top Programs at Roy Griak

Minneapolis, MN - The UT cross country teams had stiff competition at the Roy Griak Invitational over the weekend, racing multiple nationally ranked teams and putting forth an impressive effort.
Toledo's women raced to a 17th-place finish while the men placed 22nd. Dagna Sztykiel was Toledo's top runner for the third consecutive meet while Elisha Kipchumba was the first to cross the finish line for the UT men.
Sztykiel finished the race in 23:16.90, finishing 90th out of 222 runners. Audra Brown came in second for the Rockets with a time of 23:19.40, good for 92nd place. Natalie Perzanowski was the next UT runner to finish, completing the course in 23:36.50. Karen Sovacool and Emma Kertesz rounded out the Rocket scorers with 23:45.80 and 23:52.90, respectively.
Kipchumba ran the 8K course in 26:36.00, becoming the first in Midnight Blue and Gold to complete the race. For the second straight race, Ken Kiptoo Samoei was the second Rocket to score as he clocked in at 26:37.00. Chris Wall ran the course in 26:51.00, earning third among Rockets, while Barnaba Kiprotich was the fourth-place scorer for UT with a time of 27:49.00. Jonathon DeWitt rounded out the Rockets top five with a 27:53.00 finish.
Kari Hardt from Arizona State won the race in 21:28.40 while Minnesota won the team competition. Adams State took the men's title while Elkanah Kibet of Auburn was the first male to finish the race with a time of 23:56.00.
The Rockets will be in action next at the All-Ohio Championships on Friday Oct. 10 in Delaware, OH.
