Director of Strength & Conditioning Steve Murray

Steve Murray has been UT's strength and conditioning coach since 1997. Murray oversees the strength and conditioning programs for all 16 varsity sports at Toledo. His work with the Rocket teams has resulted in vast improvements in strength and endurance across the board.

Murray came to Toledo from the U.S. Military Academy, where he had served as assistant strength coach since 1994. At Army, Murray was responsible for training 720 student-athletes in 15 varsity sports. He developed strength and conditioning programs for 12 varsity teams and instituted computerized dietary intake analyses. He also supervised the graduate assistants and a 25-member cadet strength team.

From 1990-94, Murray served as assistant strength coach for the NFL's Washington Redskins, organizing and administering conditioning programs for all rookies during mini-camp. Prior to and during his tenure with the Redskins, Murray worked for the U.S. Department of Justice, where he served as the director of strength and conditioning programs for 14 federal government fitness centers.

Murray is a 1987 graduate of Penn State University, where he majored in health education. In 1991, he earned a master of science degree in exercise physiology from Slippery Rock (PA) University.

Murray is married to the former Patricia Roth of Woodbridge, VA. They are the parents of four children, Ryan, Kyle, Kristen and Jordan.
