Rockets Lose a Close Meet to Akron, 156-144

Akron, OH - The University of Toledo swimming and diving losses a close one in against Akron in their last dual meet of the season. The Rockets lost by a score of 156-144 and finish the season 5-4, 3-3 in the MAC.
UT started the meet off by winning the 400 medley relay by more than two seconds. The Rockets then lost the next three events however capturing second and third in the 1,000 freestyle, second in the 200 freestyle and second and third in the 100 backstroke.
The biggest victory of the day came when sophomore Kylie Gamelier won the 100 breaststroke and breaking the school record of 1:04.99 with her time of 1:04.89. The previous school record was set by Iiris Hilvo in 2004.
"I am very proud of Kylie," said head coach Lars Jorgensen. "Setting a school record is a big accomplishment and it doesn't happen that often in dual meet."
Junior Liz Hinkleman then captured the next victory for Toledo in the 50 freestyle. Senior Brie Henning won the 100 freestyle. Junior Megan McKinley won the one-meter dive and Gamelier also won the 200 breaststroke. The Rockets did not win another event until the final relay where they pulled out a close win in the 200 freestyle.
"I feel we competed very hard today," said Jorgensen. "We just fell short in a few areas.
Toledo will be off until they travel to Eastern Michigan on February 14 for the MAC Championships.
