Head Coach Tom Amstutz
Toledo vs. Kansas
Sept. 15, 2006
(On struggling offensively in the second half)
"We played a really good football team from the Big 12. The game's not over until it's over and we had the last big play on the run by Jalen Parmalee to win the game. I was proud of our whole football team and how we battled all night long. We played as hard as we could play after starting the season with two losses. We still believed in each other and stayed together and made the plays."
(On the defense making big plays)
"There was a lot of big plays in tonight's game. Takeaways were the name of the game tonight and our defense came up with big play after big play. Turnovers give you the ball back and help you end up on the winning side of the game. We needed those big plays and we've been hungry for them and working for them. You have to play well on both sides of the ball to win and that's what we did."
Junior RB Jalen Parmalee
"Our offense was a little shaky in the second half. We couldn't get much started but we just kept fighting. Overtime came and we collected ourselves. We got it together and produced a touchdown."
"We're always prepared for overtime. We condition our bodies to be ready for it if it comes down to it. We were beat up but we fought through it."
(on the winning TD)
"It felt great. That's one of the things every player hopes for, to score the winning touchdown."
Sophomore QB Clint Cochran
"The important thing to focus on is that both teams gave it their all. We were fighting and scratching. When emotions are high in a game like this and little things happen you have to be able to look beyond them and go on to the next play."
(No turnovers)
"It turned out to be one of the biggest stats of the game. It's something that Coach Amstutz stresses every week. The team that wins the turnover battle more often than not wins the game."
Freshman SS Barry Church
(on scoring TD on interception)
"It felt great. It just felt great."
(on first game in Glass Bowl)
"I was a little nervous. The crowd was pumping and it was loud. It was my first big game in the Glass Bowl. But after my first couple tackles I just played football.
Kansas Head Coach Mark Mangino
"You are not going to win with six turnovers in a game. I want to give credit to our kids who could overcome the six turnovers and win the game. There is no way to you can win a game with that many turnovers. It will probably never happen again. We have to be smarter with the ball in the future."
(on Kerry Meier) "This game was a learning experience for Kerry. He just has to learn to handle the ball more carefully. No one is to blame for the bad hand-off; it just didn't mesh well with us tonight. It is the most basic play that we practice everyday and there is know excuse for us to miss that."
"The defense really came through and did a lot of positive things. There was only two disappointments, the touchdown before the half and in the overtime on that run."
