Toledo, OH - Head Swim Coach Lars Jorgensen announced the hiring of new diving coach Marie Canarecci today. Canarecci was a standout member of the Eastern Michigan University diving program and will be graduating this spring from EMU. She replaces departed UT Diving Coach Marianne Kruk.
Canarecci competed for the Eagles at the NCAA Zone C Qualifying Meet in March, finishing eighth in the one-meter with a score of 532.10 and sixth in the three-meter with a score of 599.70. The South Bend, IN native also recently competed at the US Open Diving Championships in Indianapolis, IN, finaling in both the 1M and 3M against some of the best competition in the world.
"Marie comes highly recommended and we are very excited about her taking the diving program to the next level," Jorgensen said.
Canarecci, a graduate of Marian High School in South Bend, also coaches in a country club league every summer in the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti, MI area.
"I'm really excited about the position," Canarecci said. "I want to bring it to the level it should be at. Knowing the basics and fundamentals of diving will help me, because there are many specific parts to a dive. I'm just really excited to start."
Canarecci will have three divers to work with, two vetereans in highly successful sophomore Megan McKinley and fellow sophomore Jill Reighard, along with newly signed recruit Courtney Ritchie.
